Getting Settled…in Malawi Africa
So, I arrived in Malawi in the beginning of August. After three short
but enlightening weeks I had to return home unexpectedly, but I’m
back now and ready to roll. I think being gone really made me realize
how quickly (for Malawi) things are moving around here. During the
time I was absent the garden in front of the school really took shape
and now has a brick enclosure surrounding it. Fourteen 5,000 L water
tanks arrived and solar powered electricity is on the horizon. New
relationships with contractors and teachers have been formed, and
others are being tested.
Just today we took two of our teachers to a hospital to get checked
out for Malaria, picked up five batches of bamboo for a fence in order
to protect the orchard, met with some of our contractors and the head
of the school, did a tour of the school, got the Land Rover fixed, and
managed to get pretty dirty in the process. At this moment we are
sitting outside enjoying some tranquility by the lake after a full day
of organized chaos. In about half-an-hour four people from the
Ministry will be arriving along with two of our contractors who are
helping on the maternity ward and the school. It’s essential that
these contractors adhere to strict guidelines that will be enforced by
these very men from the Ministry, so let’s hope they get along.
Next time I’ll let you know how it went so check back soon
