July 2008 Trip in Malawi, Africa with HELP
Seven individuals, including Jillian Wolstein, left for Malawi on Monday July 28 and are scheduled to return on August 7, 2008. While they are there, they will be distributing a variety of donated supplies. The group traveled over with 200 pounds of medical supplies, which included 24,000 tablets of Amoxicillin, various wound care supplies, and topical ointments used for burns, scrapes, and rashes. Brothers Brother, located out of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, donated our pharmaceutical products which will be given to the Balaka District Hospital. MedWish International based out of Cleveland Ohio provided the wound care supplies, which included the topical ointments and those, are going to be donated to the District Hospital as well.
In addition to the medical supplies, a variety of school supplies were taken over for the Nanthomba School. HELP Malawi received a very generous donation from an individual who had been to the school and wanted to support the cause. The school supplies included multicolored construction paper, pens, pencils, markers, glue sticks, rulers, and a variety of other items. Also for the school, HELP Malawi will be distributing teacher uniforms. These uniforms consist of a blue button down with HELP Malawi embroidered on it. This will give the teachers a greater sense of ownership to their role as teachers as well as uniformity and empowerment as a professional.
Finally, a variety of supplies to support the local village band were taken over to be distributed. Among these supplies, uniform shirts were presented to band members to give them continuity so that they may identify as professional band members. These individuals will be giving lessons at Nanthomba School for students who are interested in music.
Once they return, we will be posting pictures from the trip, so keep checking back.
CHEERS!
