Update Nandumbo Health Centre: Certification Recieved from Medical Council of Malawi
Great News! The Nandumbo Health Care Centre has passed inspection by the Medical Council of Malawi and is now certified!
H.E.L.P. and our Malawian, American and international partners have completed the construction of Nandumbo Health Care Centre! This health center will open within weeks—and will provide critical out-patient medical care to the 17,300 people living in the area Help Malawi serves. In the near future, the goal is to open the Health Centre’s maternity ward as well.
The Nandumbo Health Centre recently received a visit from the Medical Council of Malawi, the regulatory agency that oversees the certification of all public health care facilities. In anticipation of their visit, H.E.L.P. management, staff, and international volunteers worked hard to ensure the center was fully prepared to present to the medical council: all rooms were furnished, with the refrigerator in the pharmacy quietly humming. The solar power generated electricity for the clinic, water system, and the staff housing were all running seamlessly.
When the Medical Council’s inspection team arrived on site they scrutinized every room…every nook and cranny. They were extremely impressed with the results and to the excitement of the H.E.L.P. team they announced that the Nandumbo Health Centre could officially open the very next day (pending the arrival of medicine and medical staff)! No one could have expected to hear such great news. Everyone in attendance including the Balaka District Hospital staff, the Nandumbo Village Health Committee members, the H.E.L.P. Malawi staff and all the other community members rejoiced in celebration. This news will forever play a positive role and greatly impact the health standards in nearby communities.
Although the Health Centre will be officially handed over to the Ministry of Health very soon, H.E.L.P. will continue to have a close relationship with the district health officials who will operate and maintain the centre.
