Oxford Red Dress Couture Ball Benefit for HELP Malawi Children
Social responsibility and fashion come together in a magical evening to improve the lives of others
WHO/WHAT: The Red Dress Couture Ball under the patronage of the Rt Hon Lord Patten of Barnes is an evening
dedicated to fashion and philanthropy which was founded by a group of young, passionate students, studying a
variety of academic disciplines at the University of Oxford. The Red Dress Couture Ball serves to raise
funds and awareness for two non-profit organizations: H.E.L.P. and Teach a Man To Fish. RED, the
international colour of hope for those affected by HIV/AIDS is the unifying link carried throughout the
evening’s festivities. All proceeds from the night will go towards both charities and their projects that deal
directly with combating HIV/AIDS.
The Red Dress Couture Ball production team is partnered with The Aloysius Society: an established group
of Oxford students who produced the Sugarplum ball in Autumn of 2009 raising a staggering £100,000
for an SOS Children’s Villagers project in Chipata, Zambia. They have both come together to improve the
lives of impoverished children.
It will be in respect of education, in honour of art and in celebration of fashion to raise both awareness
and funds for this noble cause. Featured designers will each showcase one red couture gown, either
commissioned specifically for the show, or taken from their own collections, expressing their support for
the event’s charities and causes. Collectivley, these diverse pieces will unite on one catwalk to represent
the international solidarity that lies at the core of this event.
Designers that will send their RED creations down the runway are: Chanel, John Galliano, Vera
Wang, Nicole Farhi, Marchesa, Bill Blass, Escada, Herve Leger by Max Azria,
Temperley, NOIR, Christian Siriano, Brian Reyes, Paul Smith, Chagoury Couture, Christiane
King, Yotam Solomon, Adolfo Sanchez, Issa London, Anya Hindmarch, Tina Knowles for
House of Dereon, Francesca Miranda and more.
All proceeds from the event will go directly to the programs established by H.E.L.P. and Teach a Man
To Fish. The event will take place on Friday, June 18, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at The
University of Oxford.
