Shop for a Cause at the Cascade in Vail

VAIL — Aria Spa at the Cascade Resort and Spa invites Vail residents for an evening of fun and fundraising Thursday in honor of the HELP (Hope, Educate, Love, Protect) Malawi foundation. HELP Malawi was founded by Vail resident Jillian Wolstein to fund vital educational and medical services for the 1 million-plus orphans in Malawi, Africa.

The goal of this shop-for-a-cause event is to raise money to support future HELP Malawi life-sustaining and life-enhancing initiatives, such as building a medical clinic to treat a projected 60,000 persons, as well as developing a maternity clinic and water treatment system for clean drinking water.

Vail shoppers will be able to purchase jewelry from the Panthera Collection, of which 100 percent of sales will be donated to HELP Malawi. Initially inspired by a vintage lion cuff link, HELP has incorporated either a sterling silver or 14-karat gold coin with a lion etching into each piece in the Panthera Line, celebrating the lion as a symbol of strength and courage for the children of Malawi. There will also be original items imported from Malawi for sale.

“HELP Malawi was started to make a difference and we’re thrilled to work with the Aria Spa to raise valuable funds that enable our foundation to bring more support and aid to those in need in Malawi,” Wolstein said.

Funds at Work…

Every dollar donated to HELP Malawi helps, as it only takes a few dollars to make a significant difference in someone’s life. A few examples of how funds are put to work are:

• $5 buys a mosquito net to protect someone against malaria, a fatal, yet preventable disease.

• $50 purchases school supplies for 25 village children (primarily orphans) attending the newly completed primary school, built with funds from HELP Malawi.

• $100 buys library supplies to help the predominantly illiterate population learn to read.

• $500 buys a year of seeds to create sustainable crops, which villagers harvest and eat.

• $1,000 buys non-pharmaceutical wound care supplies for the wound care clinic.
