Malaria Nets
Malaria illness is the single largest scare that Malawians must face concerning the death of Malawian children. 110 people die every day from malaria in Malawi and the majority of those who die are under the age of 18.
In an effort to help protect the villages from Malaria, HELP has developed a mosquito net distribution program that helps to lower prevalence of malaria in the area.
HELP sells nets throughout the catchment area at a greatly subsidized rate. The HELP staff have found that families that purchase these nets have a greater sense of ownership and are more likely to use and maintain them, when they are bought as opposed to handled out for free. This method has been extremely effective and accepted in the area where HELP serves.
In addition to selling the nets, both children and adults receive support from local staff on how to install and care for each net. On average 1,000 nets a month are distributed to local villagers, providing a life sustaining tool to protect against this fatal disease.
